Gardenia was first established as a small family-run bakery in 1978. The secret to Gardenia’s success lies in its traditional American recipe that has been tried and tested for generations. Over time, further improvements have been made to the range of recipes and the method of processing, especially in the area of automation. All these ensure that the aroma, taste and keeping qualities of the bread are consistently being maintained. The range of products has also grown to more than 60 varieties of freshly baked bread, buns and frozen products that cater to every occasion.
Today, Gardenia is the market leader with 40 years of history under its belt and has remained a household favourite for generation after generation by staying true to the same enduring qualities of trust, reliability, good taste and freshness that has made our breads so good… you can even eat it on its own!



1978
Gardenia first started as a small in-store bakery at Bukit Timah Plaza, with the help of experienced American baker, Horatio ‘Sye’ Slocumm, who had 35 years experience in the bakery business.
1983
Started a commercial bakery at Pandan Loop.
1986
QAF acquired Gardenia.
1987
Gardenia expanded into the Asia-Pacific region such as Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines.
1993
A second bakery in Singapore was set up in June 1993.
1996
Gardenia ventured into China.
2006
Launched Gourmet Selections which includes a range of premium country loaves.
2007
Launched one of the first low GI loaves in Singapore - Nutri Multi-Grain.
2009
1st bakery in Singapore to introduce a bread vending machine.
2014
Ranked No.1 Selling Bread Brand and No.1 Wholemeal Bread Brand in Singapore by A.C. Nielsen.
Started complimentary educational bakery tours daily.
2017
Launch of savoury bun (Sambal Ikan Bilis Bun).
2018
Launch of Gardenia Low GI Soft Grain Loaf which is suitable for both the health- conscious consumers and people with diabetes.
2020
Improved Gourmet Selections recipe, baked with sourdough and undergo 16 hours of fermentation.
2021
Launched Gardenia 100% Wholemeal Extra Soft & Fine Bread Jumbo 600g with 25% less sugar.
2022
Enhanced recipe of Gardenia Butter Rolls and Gardenia Hi-Calcium Milk Bread with premium Hokkaido Milk.
2023
Launched Gardenia Nutri-Ace Sprouted Soft Grain 100% Wholemeal Loaf baked with sprouted grains which aid digestion
2024
Launched Gardenia Hearty Oat Wholemeal Loaf which contains Beta-glucan. Oat beta glucan has been shown to lower blood cholesterol.
Launched a series of Gold Edition
